IIndiana Obesity Center, P.C., exists to help you get your weight under control. Simple as that. We specialize in LAP-BAND® System Surgery. Above: Mandy celebrates with Dr. McEwen following her loss of 100 pounds (in ten months!) through LAP-BAND® System Surgery.
Overweight and obesity are associated with an increase in a variety of risk factors for cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, osteoarthritis, gall bladder disease, sleep apnea, some psychosocial disorders, some forms of cancer and increased mortality. About 300,000 deaths each year are associated with obesity.
The increased prevalence of individuals who are overweight and obese has also increased the health care costs associated with the increased risk factors. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2001 a little over $117 billion was spent by Americans on direct or indirect health care. Over 39 million workdays, 62 million physician office visits, 89 million bed days and 239 million restricted activity days are lost each year due to obesity. Other factors include medications, hospital or nursing home care, and loss wages because of illness or disability, as well as the value of future earnings lost by premature death.
Losing weight not only helps to improve the way that you look, but also it is important to improving your health and quality of life. By reducing your body weight by 10% you will substantially reduce your chances of developing diabetes, heart disease, and even joint problems. For a woman that weighs 200 pounds a 10% weight reduction would only be about 20 pounds. This reduction will help you feel better about yourself and it will help you enjoy your life. Our goal is to help you lose 10% of your total weight in 12 weeks.
Indiana is ranked as the 5th most obese population in the nation. What is your life worth to you? Call us today at 317-621-2511.
